Ann's Voter Guide 2012

How about all those pesky propositions on the CA ballot? Good news readers! I have been looking into those so you don't have to.  From now through the election I will be posting about each of the propositions, a new one every few days. I'll let you know who's backing them and opposing them and tell you how I plan to vote on them and why.

My general philosophy is that governing is usually better suited to the give and take of representative legislatures than to ballot initiatives and so I start out conservatively leaning "No" on everything.  There are important exceptions however:
1) Citizen's vote is required by law
2) Proposed law is needed but has opponents with enough money/power/influence to stop it getting passed through normal legislative process
3) Support for proposed law, however commonsense, leaves individual representatives open to gotcha soundbites in future elections

The California initiative process is often used (abused perhaps?) by rich individuals or industry groups to pass legislation that directs tax money toward their business or  industry. I am very wary of any initiative that is the brain baby of one rich person and there are a few of these on the ballot. Nevertheless, be sure, dear readers, that I will read through every proposition,  follow the money pro and con and let you know what I find out.
